Hi all,

I have an operating system (BELENIX - a open solaris distribution)
installed on a Sony Microvault 1gb pen drive. It has grub installed on
it.

My PC config :
P4 2.66, 512 ram, 160 SATA Hdd, DVD R/W . Asrock 775i45GV motherboard.

I unable to boot the USB on my PC. The stage one loads and i get a grub
command prompt. the bootable devices visible there are only hd1 and
fd1.

I can successfully boot stage 2 followed by the OS on my friends PC and
laptop. The devices that i can see there from grub are hd0, hd1 and
fd0.

Will updating the firmware (flashing the BIOS) from
http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?Model=775i45GV ? What are
the risks. My current version of the BIOS setup is AMIBios - 08.00.11
Build : 05/03/05 ID : 915-MS.

that 915-MS code does not make sense with the other info you gave. Please run the bios agent and give use the results.

you do not have to order a bios from esupport, we just need to confirm the ID of your board.

You are talking about two different motherboards, models and manufacturers.
It isn't an ASRock motherboard, it's an ECS Elitegroup 915-M5GL:
