Post subject: right motherboard |

hi i have an emachine 2542 which the psu went out and took the motherboard with it.i put in a new psu and the motherboard is not available anylonger so i went for this one EP-4VKM31 which is a socket 478 but a differant chipset. what do i need to do to make this all work .pretty new at this. any help i thanks you all in advance.

Get a windows CD of the same version that was installed and use the serial number on the sticker on your system-case for a reinstall. You may be able to repair windows so you can backup your data, but in the end it's best to do a full reinstall.

| all i have is the restore disk that came with the pc.will i need to buy a copy of xp?

you only need an install CD of XP, you have got the license key, that is on the sticker on your system case.
