This laptop comes w/ a Celeron 700 by default. I purchased a 1GHz PIII as an upgrade, however the laptop identifies it a 700MHz PIII. Everest shows it as 88MHz x 7, which is even slower. So I think all I need is added microcode that supports my faster CPU. The BIOS is by Phoenix.
Also, the manual shows a limitation of only being able to add 128M in the single mem slot. I added a 256M module to see if it would work. The BIOS showed the memory, but Windows would not boot and cmplained of corrupted files. This seems more like a compatibility error with the 64M built in memory to me, or does it sound like another limitation in this laptop BIOS?
I've read many a post on this forum, but am not clear yet if this is something that can be fixed. Please let me know what I must do, and if it can be done. Thanks.
