I found this:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/search/se ... &bios=6156

Here I can see three different alternatives... which one is good for me?

I have W6156VF1 V2.3 040500, 6156VF?

6156ZX
6156VA
6156BX

MSI 6156VA OEM'ed to Fujitsu-Siemens

Either Fujitsu-Siemens has a newer Bios or you should try the official MSI Bios

Thanks for a quick answer! :D

But I have been to fujitsu and they have no support as I can see on this bios no more. Could this be?

I have bios version 2.3 and the best I can find on MSI is 2.5 but this version doesn't seem to solve my HD problem. Have'nt tried it but the description doesn't say anything about larger HD support.

Any clues?

From MSI version 2.5
BIOS ID string: 01/01/2000-692-596-W977-2A6LGM4BC-00
BIOS OEM string: W6156VMS V2.5 101700
INT13h Extensions...Present: new-style
=> BIOS already supports HDDs over 32GB!
Searching for size calculation routine...is already OK
Searching for SETUP size calculation routine...is already OK
BIOS already supports HDDs over 32GB & 64GB - Nothing to do!
What is your problem ? Does the machine hang while detecting ?

Hi

My 2.3 version does'nt auto detect my new HD. When I try it hangs. Same thing if I skip Bios setup. My new harddrive is set up as primary slave.

Do you think that 2.5 will solve this. I have not yet installed 2.5 only had a thought about it. I want to be really sure that this is the right bios before I do something I will regret... hehe.

Thanks for listening.

The Fujitsu version 2.3 can be found at http://fsc-pc.de/support/drvupload.asp? ... o=Download
and Rainbow's utility says:
BIOS ID string: 01/01/2000-692-596-W977-2A6LGM4BC-00
BIOS OEM string: W6156VF1 V2.3 040500
INT13h Extensions...Present: new-style
=> BIOS already supports HDDs over 32GB!
Searching for size calculation routine...Found at 2222
Patching code at 2221
Searching for SETUP size calculation routine...Found at 20372
Replacing XGroup Block...Updating checksum...
Updated OK
so it supports >32GiB but has to be patched to support >64GiB. In your situation I would flash the 2.5 MSI BIOS. Of course, there is always an element of risk in any flash operation.

Hi again

Ok so that is why I can't detect my HD. Thanks at last I have it in "writing". Ok I will try to flash my biosand upgrade to 2.5.... but you wrote something about to patch the 2.3 to support >64gb. What is that?

Thanks again.... this day start to turn out good.... :D

There's a well-known set of bugs in the Award 4.50-4.51 BIOSes which will do any or all of the following:
- hang when auto-detecting drives bigger than 32 GiB
- hang when trying to display the capacity of drives bigger than 64 GiB in the set-up screen
- hang when trying to display the capacity of drives bigger than 64 GiB in the configuration display screen.

People have looked into the reasons for this and come up with rules for modifying the BIOS. Rainbow, a moderator on this site, has produced a utility used by the Associates and Moderators on this site to patch BIOSes for people to try out on a non-commercial basis. It fixes these bugs; sometimes the displayed size is wrong though the HDD works OK; occasionally we find one that still does not work. which leads to suspicion that there is another unidentified bug.
It detects that 2.3 BIOS has the 32GiB bug fixed but not the 64GiB bugs.

Ok so if I get you right this means that this utility wouldn't work on mine because of >64? Plus that 2.5 could have the same error..... halleluja!

Ok so maybe I have to look for another motherboard......

Shame on the award people.. hehe this is not some good news.

Thanks for all info and help!

No.
The 2.5 BIOS *already supports* HDD up to 128 GiB.
The 2.3 BIOS supports HDD up to 64 GiB *and can be patched* to support HDD up to 128GiB.
