As well as the id string in the subject I get the following info when I boot:

T16NB-T7-0604(TEST)

AWARD MODULAR BIOS v4.51PG

I think that my bios is the latest version as I was sent it by TMC a while ago. However, I recently bought a hard drive that is not recognized, a Western Digital WDC WD400BB-00CXA0.

I have only managed to use the new hard drive by installing EZ-BIOS which I got from WD's website. Unfortunately using this is driving me potty. A previously very stable MS Windows 95C system now falls over and locks up quite often, and will hardly ever shut down. A reset is now usually required just to power the machine down.

I have considered dumping the 40GB drive for a much smaller one that would be recognized, just so I can be rid of EZ-BIOS and return to normal, but having found this site I thought that I would ask if you had any better suggestions. Is this problem related to the 8.4GB limit or the 32GB problem that I have read a bit about here with the Award BIOS?

Yor BIOS is newer than the one on TMC page. Please save it to a file and send it to my e-mail. I will patch it for you.

Both the latest BIOS at TMC page and your test BIOS supports HDDs up to 128GB! Do you have the jumpers configured correctly? Turn off 32GB clipping. If the drive is single on the IDE channel, configure it as single (usually all jumpers removed).
