I can't get my board to recognize my 40gig WD harddrive. I have the latest bios but it still won't recognize the drive. I think I need a patch. I read this post and the bios worked for this guy. I didn't use any switches when I flashed however.

That BIOS supports HDDs up to 64GB! Check the drive jumpers - if the drive is single on the channel (no other drives connected to the same cable), configure it as SINGLE (usually no jumper installed), not MASTER.

The drive is set a as master on the secondary IDE. My drives are laid out as follows:
Primary master: 20GB maxtor
Primary Slave: Liteon DVD
Secondary Master: 40GB WD
Secondary Slave: Liteon 16x10x40
I'm running an Intel WS440bx board right now. I swapped out mobos and the biostar wouldn't find the 40gb HD, after flashing bios and checking cables, jumpers, and etc, I put the intel back in.

"wouldn't"=During post/boot message on screen would read:

Ok, since then I put the biostar mobo back in and switched the ide devices around. I was reading some more forums here and there and came to the conclusion that I might need to move the devices around. Here's my current setup:
Primary master: maxtor 20GB
secondary slave: WD40GB
Primary master:liteon dvd
secondary slave: liteon 16x10x40
The system now recognizes the WD40GB drive, however it still says "none" for the lteon 16x10x40. I'm thinking it must be a buffer overrun thingy. I read where some older mobo have problems with newer cdrw's. I'm going to switch the dvd and cdrw and see if it will work then.

check jumper settings on the devices themselves for proper master or slave setting. Remember it DOES matter where you connect your device on the cable if you are using 80-wire UDMA cables...

Typical behaviour if the IDE cable is connected backwards. Stripe mark on the cable should match pin 1 on the connector...The light on the front of the cdrw stays on all the time.

Yes, I have the cable connected correctly. I set my Intel WS440BX mobo up in another case with a couple hard drives and a cd drive. I took the cdrw out of the biostar system and hooked it up with my Intel system, It works fine. I also took the cd drive out of the Intel system and but it where the cdrw was in the biostar system, it found the cd drive , no problem. There is some sort of problem between the biostar mobo and the cdrw. I'm still searching for the answer.
Maybe CD-RW firmware update will help.

I got these instructions from the support forums on Liteon's website:
1.Shut down the computer and disconnect the mains power plug.
2.Remove the Molex (power) plug from the CDRW drive, and also the IDE ribbon cable.
3. Reconnect the mains power and boot the computer to Windows.
4. Shut down again and remove the mains power plug.
5.Reconnect the Molex power connector to the CDRW drive.
6. Reconnect the mains power and boot again.
7. Shut down (last time now), remove the mains power plug,
8.reconnect the ribbon cable to the drive,
9. reconnect the mains power plug and boot.
Followed instructions and now everything works. I only other thing I did was used short screws to mount the cdrw.
