Hi,

I have a Tyan Trinity 510 (S2266) motherboard.

I had a flash fail and now a screen comes up and says:

Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.

BIOS ROM checksum error

Detecting floppy drive A media ...
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I did and it said:

Microsoft(R) Windows 95
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1996

A:\

So, I took my BIOS image and tried a re-flash:

A:\flashv73 2266v104.bin /py/sn/f/cc/r

Then the program starts and I get this:

FLASH MEMORY WRITER V7.3
"System was not new AWARD BIOS version!"
"Please update ROM BIOS first..."

Then I'm returned to an A:\ prompt.

Has anybody heard of this? Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Try a newer/older flasprog

Maybe it's better to use a DOS 6.x or DR-DOS Bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com to have as much as possible free conventional DOS-Memory

I tried a newer flash program, awdflash.exe (version 8.22) and another bootdisk.

When awdflash ran, it asked for the filename, which I put in, then floppy drive ran like it was loading the XXX.bin, then the computer just did nothing.

The Award BootBlock still is there, so I can still get to a A:\ prompt.

Try UniFlash, but it's possible that it will kill the BIOS completely.

Surprisingly, after trying many different methods, I was able to re-flash the BIOS and every works like before!

Just goes to show that anything can happen!

And to think, the Tyan website says that if a BIOS Flash fails, you must buy a new chip! Now I laugh at that.

I have read your story and it figures that I have exactly the same problem. The flash utility loads automatically without reading the autoexec.bat and it doesn't find the file. I am very interested by your solution...
