Hi,
i need a bios recognizing for my IBM 120 GB HDD.
My eMail is: data-bear@web.de
Thanks in advance.
120GB: 11/05/1999-ALADDIN5-2A5KKB0DC-00
Note: the ID ALADDIN5-2A5KKB0DC could also be M5 ALC, but with that date it should be the latest M5 ALA BIOS. What does the message say in the top left of the memory count screen ? ALA1105B ?
If this is the M5ALA BIOS then Rainbow has already patched it but apparently not had confirmation that it works, as he has not posted it to http://wims.rainbow-software.org/.

At the website http://http://wims.rainbow-software.org, I can not found a BIOS for M5ALA BIOS.
Indeed,
I've sent you a "bp" patched version to try.NickS wrote:he has not posted it to http://wims.rainbow-software.org/.
In an email,
So we are now at the "my computer is dead" scenario.
- Does the computer make any sound ?
- Does the computer try to read the diskette drive ?
- Can you plug in an ISA video card to see if there is any error message ?
I suggested using the "press '-' on boot" option but this has no effect.data-bear wrote:I habe try the patched M5ALA BIOS. The update process are successfully, but after reboot, the computer hangs. The monitor are black, nothing passed. What can I do, to run my computer?

Try clearing the CMOS. I do not expect this to have any effect as the patched BIOS should have used the same data structures as the BIOS you were using, but there is a small chance. If this does not work you will need to consider reprogramming the flash ROM either using the "hotflash" technique (see the postings in Collected Wisdom) or using a programming service.
Hi data-bear.
- Did you use a completely new chip ?
If the answer is yes:
- Do you have access to a programming device ? If so, please can you compare the contents of your old chip with the file I sent you ? I would like to know whether the flashing process failed or whether the patching process failed. If the flashing process failed, maybe you can reprogram your old chip with the file I sent you and swap it in to test again.

Hello NickS,
yes, I use a completly new BIOS chip.
I have not personally access to a programming device.
I don`t think, thats the flashing process failed, because not occured error at the flashing process.
But, if you think, that the flashing process failed, I can make let burn a new BIOS chip with the file from you or can you me burn a chip?

I have a Biostar M5ALA (v1.1 I think) which has
BIOS Date: 11/05/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 11/05/1999-ALADDIN5-2A5KKB0DC-00
OEM Sign-on: ALA1105B
Chipset: ALi Mi541 rev 4
I am trying to install a Maxtor 120 GB HDD
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 120GB, 7200 rpm, 8MB, type 6Y120P0, ultra ATA 133, kit L01P120
Could you help me with a BIOS that will work? I had applied the upgrade from ALA0624 to ALA1105 thinking that that would do the trick, but it didn't.
What was the outcome of data-bear's case? Did the patched BIOS actually work?
Thanks for any help or pointers.

Hi Robert
DataBear flashed the BIOS patched with apple_rom's BP. His machine stopped working. Whether that is an issue with the patch or with his old BIOS ROM is unclear. He got someone to flash a new ROM with his original BIOS and is back to square one, as far as I know. I would like to check out his original ROM, so I must contact him about that.
Rainbow did a patched version for someone else using a different technique a long time ago, but as far as I can see he did not have any feedback and has never put it up for download.
