Hello Edwin,
thanks a lot! The notebook recogniced my 40 gig harddisk fine. It's a Hitachi Travelstar 5K80 (HTS548040M9AT00). The HD-DMA has to be disabled in bios. In the OS (Win 2000 and Linux) the UltraDMA-Mode is shown.
The speed is 4 time faster than with the old hd.
But now I have the next problem. My CPU isn't recogniced. It's a AMD K6-III+ and the memory speed is slowlier than with a patched bios for the cpu.
Can I send you my old patched bios which isn't patched for great harddisks?
Greetings,
Stefan

If that has a patch for the faster CPUs then yes, please do so. Where did you get your bios?

An update on this MP-983 BIOS issue;
As I understand it, there are two types of motherboards used in the Chicony MP983 notebook series, a type "D" and a type "S". Hence the different BIOSes.
The latest version for both types used to be v1.43, but later I found an updated v1.46S. The v1.43D seems to be the last version for the "D" boards.
I have patched both the v1.43D and v1.46S BIOS for K6+ support. In addition I've added Write-Allocation support for K6-2CXT, K6-III, and K6+.
Stefan has now succesfully tested this v1.46S patch J.1 BIOS with a K6-III+. I will make a further patch J.2 BIOS to fix the 32GB limit bug as well and send it to Stefan. When tested, I will makes these BIOSes available on my k6plus page. (see link below)
Greetings, Jan.

Hello Jan, hello Edwin, hello all you freaks,
first I say thanks to all of you, especially Edwin and Jan !!!
Sorry for the late reply, I was on the road.
Yeah, the notebook runs perfect with the bios from Edwin (wimsbios patch 64GB). Today I bought a second ram - 128 MB. Now there are 256 MB installed.
Perfect. But the memory isn't so fast which it was with Jan's patched bios (write-allocation and so on - but without the patch for 64 GB hd).
Jan, there are no problems with the great harddisk for the power supply.
What should I do now? Jan, can I send Edwin your bios? Or can I wait till I get a mail from you?
Thanks a lot,
Stefan

Yep, the 64GB+ bios is available for download and since Jan is putting a lot more effort in it, he gets the credits from me, no problem there
