Hi,
I need an update/a patch for a 40GB Western Digital hard disk drive (WD400BB) for a system running with Win98.
BiosID: 61-0729-001121-00111111-071595-VT691-1VIA6920-H
Thanks,
Glenn

FIC Mainboard - please have a look at the board for a model number .
Might be printed onto the board very small somewhere in the corner at the last ISA Slot .
Please post Bios-ID including Bios OEM/Eval message !!

Ah, it's probably a VB-601-V then.
BIOS page at FIC
Note: you need to establish which PCB version you have. Look for 1.1, 1.3 or 1.4 on the PCB.
Is there no BIOS OEM message/BIOS eval ?

Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

I cannot remember the limits either, but the most I remember using under 98SE is a single 12GB drive partition, and I think a friend of mine created a single 20GB drive partition under 98SE also.
I'd imagine the limit would be around 30/32GB. 40GB would probably be pushing it. I'd think that FDISK will probably not allow you to create a partition larger than Win98SE would handle anyway. Just use the FDISK that comes on your Windows CD and experiment a little. Take care to backup any data on the disk first.

After installing the QC617-BIOS, both hard disks have't been recognized; the process of booting also failed. When tested with each hard disk singlewise, the old one worked, the new one did not.
Anybody an idea what to do?
Best regards,
Glenn

since the new one is a Western Digital, if you put it in there on its own you need to set it for single drive, not master. Easiest way to do this is by removing the jumper alltogether from the drive.phreaky78 wrote:After installing the QC617-BIOS, both hard disks have't been recognized; the process of booting also failed.
