set up windows 2000

After losing everything on my laptop but had windows 98 now that I am loading windows 2000 i get a error message saying File\i386\bios info.inf could not be loaded. error code 6656

I sometimes get such errors and find that I am using a scratched CD or faulty CD or DVD drive.
