I remember someone having some weird issues after using a card with ALi chip on a P3B-F. Maybe BX boards are different again... go figure. Or possibly one would have to differentiate between the different ALi controllers, apparently there are two types of chips, M5622 and M5633.

Did you buy the board from this seller? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6877079929&category=99241&fkxs=1 (Not many more hits with this FRU.) There it says 61H2569, which would be the mamaboard for a 300GL 6563/93 or 6574/74. You should still be able to find docs for these at IBM. ...

If the system actually POSTs completely, I wouldn't bother with the incorrect CPU detection and just upload the matching microcode update with ctmc: http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/ctsi.shtml Microcode patches can be found on ftp://ftp.sandpile.org/mcupdate/ I would get everything for 68x if it's a Coppe...

IIRC Win95's and later DOSes cannot be used with the barebone bootblock BIOS. Create a boot disk with something oldschool like MS-DOS 6.22 instead (use a disk image from the web if needed).

Only USB2 cards with NEC chips work on old motherboards (not VIA or ALi), and even then it's hit and miss. I remember there's a Longshine card with NEC chip that works.

You could try a 1300 MHz Celeron. IIRC that one already worked at 100 MHz before the P2B* BIOS got fixed.

This very much smells like the motherboard cannot provide low enough core voltages (less than 1.8 V), so CuMines would only work with slight overvoltage on a slot adapter providing voltage adjustments. As for the out of memory message, this was probably referring to conventional (DOS) memory (I assu...

Looks like this is a HP Vectra VE 6xxx Series 7 or 8. I assume the latest BIOS is already installed? In any case this is not (only) a case of missing microcode, the CPU detection routine doesn't know the PIII either. If the processor used isn't a Coppermine but an oldschool Katmai room heating, the ...

If prefetching was available in Tualatin Celerons, then quite apparently not all of them: http://www.realworldtech.com/page.cfm?ArticleID=RWT061202231808&p=6 Unfortunately it is not stated which stepping was used. There have indeed been PIII Xeons with 256K L2, but those were the "budget" models and...

I thought this would sort of fit into this thread: If anyone else should be looking for a small utility to dump an old 386's AMIBIOS to disk, a search turned up this: http://www.linuks.mine.nu/ree/ Have yet to try it there, but the DOS exe is just 9K and seems to work in an NT5 DOS box here. Not as ...

These Infineon chips should be the right ones for BX-compatible 256 meggers. Probably it's a BIOS issue. That board should be a relabeled Epox, maybe there's a newer one available there.

Re: Anyone thinks that BIOSCentral offer is legit?

Anyone thinks that BIOSCentral offer is legit? According to what I found, some people have bought BIOSes from eSupport and apparently had nothing to complain about in terms of service. But is there really no MPS version control available in this AMIBIOS? Changing this setting would be cheaper... Si...

As far as I'm aware AMI BIOSes are not patchable. However, there seems to be a newer BIOS, 1.16m: ftp://ftp.levi.cz/pub/support/driver/mb/zidabios/zx98-ct/zc98116m.zip The notes on http://support.levi.cz/soubor.php?produkt=ZX98-CT don't say anything about bigger hard drive support though. Looks like...

Welcome to the club, I'd say :). That code 35 issue is caused by a missing MPS table entry, according to an MSKB article. (Thus Win98/ME won't have any problems, having no clue about multiprocessing at all.) Selecting MPS 1.1 instead of 1.4 should get you a working USB, at least if you're not using ...
