I have a SGI M25D (almost a clone of the Aopen dx34plus-u) that I got from a bulk reseller. They sent me a disk with the current bios.bin for the Aopen. I flashed it and now it gets as far as count the memory and gets an error. The MB uses Award bios. I have the correct bios to reflash. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do it.

Can you get into the CMOS setup ?
If so, can you set it to boot from floppy ?
(If not, I think you're stuck with hot-swapping the EEPROM into another machine to flash, or getting someone to program it for you.)
Can you get the reseller to send you a correctly-programmed ROM, as they sent you the wrong BIOS ? They might have a returned motherboard...

I can't get into the cmos.

Hot swapping is an option. Does it have to be with the same chipset?

No, it doesn't have to be the same chipset. The board you are using has to provide the right addressing and programming votage capabilities, but I've hot swapped TxPro in VX etc.

It is a VIA 133T chipset. I don't know what other board would work.

If you peel the label off the BIOS ROM and the number under the label says "29xxxx" e.g. 29F010, it's 5V, which is most common these days. If the number under the label on the BIOS ROM in the other motherboard says also 5v you're in with a good chance (some motherboards have a jumper to set to change between 5v and 12v (28xxxx parts). The flash utility will tell you if there's a problem - it won't flash it.

Same problem here

But i have the Aopen boardversion without the ultra.

I have flashed my Acer Altos 600 board with an aopen DX34 plus bios
because i thought that it was exactly the same board. The bios flashed
succesfully, but now i get this message:

0211 I2C Interface of Device(s) Error, System Halt A0

It first succesfully counts memory and detects the second cpu. But
then gives the message described above.
It doesn't matter if i connect or disconnect the I2C connector to the
backplane. The Fan i2c Connector was never connected. (CN13 en CN16).

What should i do...
resolve the i2c puzzle?
Or pull out my bios chip and get a new one from Acer computer?

This is a real setback for me, and im always having bad luck with
those (Aopen) bios flashes.

Anyway, can somebody please help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Guys, You have a OEM by SGI 330 visual workstation

The latest BIOS can be found at their support web site, with free registration.
http://support.sgi.com/search_request/downloads/index

Search for "330" and select "firmware"

You need 330-a3s5-bios.zip

I had this board and been through it. IF you need bios chips for this board
head over to bioschips.afraid.org
or email me at pjm4695@yahoo.com
