I have a Maxtor 80 GB drive. The bios hangs unless I use the alternate capacity jumper which limits it to 32 GB.
If I limit it to 32 GB, I can access those first 32 GB fine.
MB string is : 61-0729-001121-00111111-071595-VT691-1VIA6920-H
I flashed the bios with the QC6172 update PCB 1.3, release date 2000/3/10.
The bios menu lets me set CHS settings for the drive, and it lets me check LBA mode on. So I set these to the settings recommended in the hard drive manual, but when I save changes and exit, the bios hangs when detecting the hard drive size.
The auto-detect in the bios will also hang unless i have the AC jumper on.
Can I modify the bios (using amibcp perhaps?) to accept my hard-drive or is it useless?
I also read in a post here that AMI-bioses which could get past the 8 GB barrier shouldn't have the 32 GB problem. Is that always true?

There's QF4129 Award BIOS for FIC VB-601-V boards but don't know what PCB version(s) does it support:
